Once upon a time there was a woodcutter, who had just started his job.
The king really liked how hard he worked.
The woodcutter cut 18 trees in the first month and did a great job and the king was happy about it.
In the next month, the woodcutter tried just as hard, but he could only cut 15 trees.
The third month came, and he still tried his best, but he could only cut 12 trees.
The king visited him during the third month and talked to him about why he was cutting fewer trees.
The woodcutter explained that he might be weak or too old to work.
The king asked, “When did you last sharpen your axe?”
Surprisingly, he hadn’t sharpened it at all in the last three months.
That was the only reason why he couldn’t cut more trees.
